Everyone has been tempted at times to speak their mind and give their opinion on something, but that opinion isn't always asked for, and if not can be recived in bad taste.

Where papers or essays are concerned, personal opinions can lower the credibility or come off as arrogant. The giver of unsolicited opinions or advise could intend that his/her motives are meant to be helpful, but it can come off as a desire to show off superior knowledge where there is none, therefor lessoning the trustworthiness of your information. Or annoying, argumentative and insensitive.

However opinions can be great just so long as they're wanted and graciously said, it's still best to stay clear of injecting opinions where they're not sought after.
